Poet SummerA plug for a seller on Etsy - Poet Summer.
I recently purchased, and wore to my 40th, a Fun with Dick & Jane bracelet (which I wore as a necklace on the night) and Carrie sent me a matching pair of earrings too. Thank you Carrie!
Make sure you go and have a look at her jewellery, especially her lovely charm bracelets.

John John with Jessica at their birthday lunch in 2007

My father-in-law passed away tonight.
Andrew and I, along other family members, have just been to the hospital to kiss him and bring Sylvia home. We all gathered at Sylvia and John's house for supper, and talk about plans for this week.
John was a great dad, grandfather and father-in-law. We loved him, and he will be greatly missed.
Old Man River
Last night I went into the city to see Old Man River at the Basement.
(It was part of a birthday gift I received for my 40th - lots of fun, thanks guys!)
I really like Old Man River's music. It is happy and laid back:

Crows? Ravens?
This occurred two days ago, as we were piling into the car for the school run...

Maddy: Mum, mum, come here quick
Me (slightly hassled): What? What are you yelling about?
Maddy: There is a big crow with one of our eggs in its beak!
Me: What! Are you sure?

Anyway... after a bit of a google search... yes, crows and ravens do raid nesting boxes and steal chook eggs.
Mmmmm... we have to devise a plan of attack now.
Any ideas?

Birthday Gifts #2
A look at some of the other gifts I received for my birthday...
Two gorgeous ornamental (maybe) bird cages.
Beautiful flowers.
More flowers.
12 great wine glasses, and a new piece of glass for my table.
A wonderful bag by Christopher Vine that I have been admiring for months, but could never justify buying.

Another Birthday
My eldest, Madeleine, turned 9 today.

All her wishes came true, as I took her to have her ears pierced this morning. It was with great joy and nervousness she approached the piercing shop, and I think was pleasantly surprised at how quick (and almost pain free) it was.

My sister and I were not allowed to have our ears pierced until we were 16. I remember I eventually had mine done after my sister had hers pierced, and I couldn't possibly let my little sister have one up on me.

I then had a second piercing in my left ear during my university years - it was the eighties and I so wanted to be just like Molly Ringwald.
Now I feel naked if I leave the house without any earrings in.

We are off to a Mexican restaurant tonight - birthday girl's choice. Yum.

Birthday Gifts #1
At the moment I am reading "How to be Good" by Nick Hornby, and loving it. If you have never read a Nick Hornby book before, you will know his stories by the films High Fidelity and About a Boy.
I received a lot of reading matter for my birthday, and look forward to the school holidays coming up in two weeks so I can sit and relax with a good book.

I Am 40

...how did that happen? Just yesterday I was leaving high school and beginning my 'adult' life.I had a fantastic time at my party.

Thankyou to all my generous and wonderful friends who helped me celebrate.
