Boxing Day
Today was spent with my side of the family.
And it was quite hot and muggy. Not good for my sister Philly, who is about to pop.
After lunch the kids cooled off in the backyard.
Andrew enjoyed the Boxing Day test match (cricket),
while the rest of us headed down to the beach.

Christmas Day
Yes... yet another slide show.
Things to note:
* my very Christmasy new shoes
* the table decorations/goody bags I was still stitching at 11pm last night
* the incredible feast my MIL, Sylvia, cooked for us
* how wonderful my family are. I love every one of them!

Merry Christmas
Laurie Anne reminded me of a character I had not thought of for years - Dot (& the Kangaroo). And then of course it lead me to think about that Australian Christmas classic - Six White Boomers.

Early on one Christmas Day a Joey Kangaroo,
Was far from home and lost in a great big zoo.
Mummy, where's my mummy?
They've taken her away.
We'll help you find your mummy, son. Hop up on the sleigh.

Up beside the bag of toys little Joey hopped,
But they hadn't gone far when Santa stopped.
Unharnessed all the reindeer and Joey wondered why,
Then he heard a far off booming in the sky.

Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

Pretty soon old Santa began to feel the heat,
Took his fur-lined boots off to cool his feet,
Into one popped Joey, feeling quite okay,
While those old man Kangaroos kept pulling on the sleigh.

Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

Joey said to Santa, 'Santa, what about the toys?
Aren't you giving some to these girls and boys?'
They've got all their presents, son, we were here last night,
This trip is an extra trip, Joey's special flight.

Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

Soon the sleigh was flashing past right over Marble Bar,
Slow down there, cried Santa, it can't be far,
Come up on my lap here, son, and have a look around.
There she is, that's Mummy, bounding up and down.

Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

Well that's the bestest
Christmas treat that Joey ever had,
Curled up in mother's pouch feeling snug and glad.
The last they saw was Santa heading northwards from the sun,
The only year the boomers worked a double run.

Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
Racing Santa Claus through the blazing sun.
Six white boomers, snow white boomers,
On his Australian run.

And then I got to thinking about Rolf Harris (the writer/composer of Six White Boomers), and the rendition he did of Stairway to Heaven years ago on the Money or the Gun.

And the the interview he did with Andrew Denton on Enough Rope, which was fascinating.
And how he was commissioned to paint the official portrait of the Queen a number of years ago, and the controversy that brought - I liked it.
And then, with thoughts of the Queen, I was reminded it was Christmas, and she will be delivering her annual message again tomorrow night.
And it is time I delivered mine:
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Sorry if you were expecting a card - I just didn't get time this year. The intention was there...

Farewell
We wished our dear friends - Kate, Sergio, Jasmine, Lucas & Malcolm - farewell on Sunday, with a picnic lunch.
But as Kate said, "It is farewell, but not goodbye."

We will miss you!!

Christmas Drinks at Our Place

I 'stole' the photos from Heather's facebook page (thanks Heather!).
Did anyone else take any so I can add them?

The Annual Christmas Lights Drive

It was time to drive around the local area to spot the outstanding (for many reasons) lighting displays on offer this year.

The kids loved it.

The dads needed a bit of convincing to come along.
