13th July

We left Guildford to drive to Brighton.
As we drove the weather kept improving.

The kids were pleased to see all the rides on Brighton Pier.

And I enjoyed all the views from the stony beach.

The 'crazy mouse' was chosen as the ride to try.

We also stopped at Bognor Regis to dip our feet in the ocean and photograph some beach huts.

And then we spotted Arundel and parked to have a look at the castle and feed some swans.

We ended up at Chichester where we stayed and spent the evening wandering through the town and finding a pub to eat at.

12th July

While we were in London Sam, Becca and their family came to stay for Reuben's birthday. It was also Sam's birthday - Tom & Anita took us all out for brunch to celebrate.

We ate at a club that Tom is a member of.
Both the building & gardens, and the food were amazing... I have not had eggs benedict for a long time!! And I was beginning to feel human again after getting over a parting gift from Tanzania - another bout of something horrid.

walking back to Tom & Anita's house afterwards - Maddie with Stella and Martha

Eddie and Seb had cricket practice during the afternoon, so we walked to Regents Park to watch and enjoy the sunshine.

Late in the afternoon we loaded up a hire car and drove to Guildford. The start of a road trip around the south.
We found a very nice pub to eat dinner in. Comfort food indeed.

11th July

The day began with Reuben opening gifts in celebration of his 6th birthday.

We made our way to the London Eye and lined up for some amazing views of the city.

It was a grey day, but not raining, so we walked over to the Houses of Parliament to eat our sandwiches on the grass outside.

We did spend a long time in the London Dungeons after lunch but it was too dark inside to photograph anything (no flash photography allowed). It was quite fun, but declared a 'little scary' by the kids.

Next it was on to Trafalgar Square, and a visit to the National Portrait Gallery.Well worth a visit.

Our last stop for the day, where we spent way too long on account of losing members of the family at different times, was Hamleys toy store.
